Description

Angel Gardens are beautiful ornamental gardens located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Ludlow.

Situated at 1000 feet above sea level they have panoramic views of the stunning Shropshire countryside and Welsh ranges and nestle in the lee of Titterstone Clee Hill the second highest Shropshire hill which is steeped in geological and natural history.

Angel Gardens has colourful rockeries and terraces. The views can be appreciated from the comfort of the six sided Gazebo occupying a commanding position at the top of the garden. There is a large lake spanned by a Willow pattern bridge and surrounded by hostas, many different crocosmias, day lilies, grasses and myriads of other plants. A little Japanese Garden takes your eye down to the clear water where there are water lilies, irises and hundreds of fish. Gentle winding paths lead down to the Italian Rosette Garden and beyond it to the Lower Pool where one can relax on the Chinese Swing peacefully listening to the sounds of flowing water and the birds singing among the bamboos.

There are colourful flower beds enhanced in summer by herbaceous perennials such as salvias, penstemmons, achiilleas, bergamots and perfumed roses and lavender. The garden surrounding the 18th century cottage provides shelter for the exotica including cordylines, phormiums and trachycarpus and the fernery is home to many different types of fern, snowdrops, bluebells and part of the large collection of rhododendrons. The steps lead from the lych-gate to the rockeries which are home to alpines, primroses, tulips and many more plants. There is a children's cottage with children's seating inside and out and the path leading to it is flanked by miniature bushes.

There is plentiful seating and shelter throughout the gardens. Homemade lunches & afternoon teas are served at the Pavilion Lakeside Tea rooms. There is a visitors' toilet with hygienic washing facilities. There is parking for cars and small minibuses but no coaches please. Parts of Angel Gardens are accessible to persons with limited mobility.

Refreshments: The Lakeside Pavillion Tea Rooms were refurbished in 2007 and provide comfortable seating at tables. A range of refreshments are served in the Tea Rooms during regular opening hours. More extensive catering of up to 3 courses and beverges can be booked by parties/groups including, by arrangement, on days or evenings outside normal hours (Telephone 01584 890381)
