Helpful Guidelines to Fire Regulations Compliance

  1. DON'T PANIC, compliance is straight forward and not prohibitively costly if you follow the simple guidelines that the fire service have provided.
  2. Carry out a risk assessment in writing and keep it on record.
  3. Identify the likely risks/causes of fire and the best means of fire detection.
  4. Identify the means of escape.
  5. Ensure that your guests are aware of what to do in a fire, how best to exit the property and where to assemble.
  6. Ensure that you have a suitable smoke alarm system. This can be a wireless system but it must be integrated - which is easier to fit than hardwired systems. Your risk assessment should identify whether this is appropriate.
  7. Ensure that you have the apparatus for tackling the fire such as fire blankets, fire extinguishers etc. Please note: Shropshire Tourism members can get a discount on such equipment from our nominated suppliers.
  8. If you are carrying out a Fire Risk Assesment yourself you may be advised to contact Shropshire Fire & Rescue on 01743 260260, before selecting wireless systems or indeed for getting their advice on any aspect of your Fire Risk Assessment.
