Meet the Team
The Shropshire Tourism Team at Harlescott Barns is here to help and support the membership and the partner organisations. Bringing together a combination of front line industry experience and a range of specialist skills (including: marketing, print and media buying, web development, press & PR, research and sales) they present a formidable force helping to promote and market Shropshire and the surrounding areas to visitors.
Chief Executive - Simon McCloy. MTMI. MIH. MCIM.
Simon has more years of experience than he is prepared to admit to! However he will acknowledge some 20 years in the hotel industry - much of it running his own business. He became Tourism Officer for North Shropshire District Council in 1995 and was also a member of Shropshire Tourism's Management group. After 7 years in this post he took over as Chief Executive at Shropshire Tourism in 2002. Simon is a full member of the Tourism Management Institute, the Institute of Hospitality and the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Marketing Manager - Catherine Collier. BA (Hons) Business Management. MTMI. MCIM.
Catherine joined Shropshire Tourism in November 2000 after working locally for some 5 years for the National Trust, Oswestry Borderland Tourism and a travel agency. Having practical experience in both the travel and tourism industry, Catherine certainly brings a wide range of knowledge to the team. Catherine completed the Advanced Certificate in Marketing in 2003, she then successfully completed a part time degree in Business Management. Catherine is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Tourism Management Institute.
Senior Marketing Officer
- Helen Edwards. BA (Hons) Business
Administration. MTMI. MCIM.
Helen joined Shropshire Tourism in 2001 after finishing her degree in 2000. After completing her A levels she worked at Oswestry Borough Council and then following her decision to go back to college to study her HND and degree, she worked part-time in leisure/service industry to support her studies. Helen's main roles at Shropshire Tourism include co-ordinating print production, providing secretarial support for Shrewsbury Tourism Association through the joint membership scheme, and is the main contact for membership enquiries. Having completed the CIM's Advanced Certificate in Marketing, Helen is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and also a Member of the Tourism Managment Institute.
Senior Marketing Officer - Sarah Whittall. BA (Hons) Tourism and Modern Languages. MTMI. MCIM.
Sarah joined Shropshire Tourism in February 2000 after completing a degree in Tourism and Modern Languages. Sarah's six year experience of the travel and tourism industry includes a year spent working in a Tourist Information Centre in France.
Sarah coordinates the Press & PR for Shropshire Tourism, liaises and hosts journalists and manages the exhibitions.
Sarah is also a member of the Tourism Management Institute and the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Marketing Officer - Benjamin
Emanuelli. BA (Hons) Business Management.

Ben joined Shropshire Tourism in 2002 after completing his degree in Business Management. Ben's main responsibilty is the management of the Shropshire Tourism website network. His duties include monitoring and updating the Shropshire destination websites, designing and building bespoke member websites and his most recent project has been to develop links with Englandnet, the national tourism product database. He works closely with many of the tourism associations throughout the county to help them develop their e-marketing presence.
Marketing Officer - Jodie
Stephen. MTMI
Jodie joined Shropshire Tourism in June 2003. After several years of experience in varied careers, including catering, dental nursing (!) and working at a local visitor attraction, Jodie decided to return to college to study Travel and Tourism. Her main roles at Shropshire Tourism include coordinating the advertisement sales for the Shropshire and Welsh Borders brochure, Places to Visit and various other publications. Jodie also assists in Press & PR and exhibitions, membership support and website work.
Jodie is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and has gained the Professional Certificate in Marketing.
Web Development Officer - Andrew Holmes-Brown - BSc (Hons) Computing
Andrew joined Shropshire Tourism in 2006 as a Web Development Officer after completing his degree course at the University of Wolverhampton. His main roles are in the design, development and maintenance of Shropshire Tourism's websites. Prior to this he has worked at the University help desk, as a Technical Analyst, a shop assistant and even in a chicken factory - all to fund his studies.
When not working he likes to listen to music (loudly), play golf (badly), and spend a Saturday afternoon cheering on the mighty (yes really) Shrewsbury Town!
Web Development Officer - Peter Harrison. BSc (Hons) Media Technology
Peter joined Shropshire Tourism as a website development officer in October 2006 after completing his degree in Media Technology. Prior to this Peter had many part-time jobs over the duration of his degree to help fund his time at University.
Peter is responsible for developing new websites for the company as well as keeping all current sites up to date.
