Your Chief Executive
Chief Executive - Simon McCloy. MTMI. MIH. MCIM. MTS.
Simon has more years of experience than he is prepared to admit to! However he will acknowledge some 20 years in the hotel industry - much of it running his own business. He became Tourism Officer for North Shropshire District Council in 1995 and was also a member of Shropshire Tourism's Management group. After 7 years in this post he took over as Chief Executive at Shropshire Tourism in 2002. Simon is a full member of the Tourism Management Institute, the Institute of Hospitality and the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Your Business Support and Marketing Team
Senior Business Support Officer - Jodie Stephen. MTMI.
Jodie joined Shropshire Tourism in June 2003. After several years of experience in varied careers, including catering, dental nursing (!) and working at a local visitor attraction, Jodie decided to return to college to study Travel and Tourism. Her main roles at Shropshire Tourism include membership support, providing secretarial support for some of the tourism associations, coordinating the advertisement sales for the Shropshire and Welsh Borders brochure, Places to Visit and various other publications.
Jodie is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and has a Professional Certificate in Marketing.
Senior Marketing Officer - Claire Owen. BA (Hons). CIM.
Claire joined the company in January 2009 after working for 2 years at Mid Wales community regeneration organisation L.L.A.N.I. Ltd, introducing and managing a number of joint tourism marketing initiatives. Claire has also traveled extensively and undertaken a number of volunteer projects abroad, including teaching English.
Her main roles at Shropshire Tourism include bespoke marketing advice and consultancy and media campaign management. She is also the main contact for press & PR enquiries.
Claire has a 1st Class honours degree in Advertising, Media & Design Management and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Business Support & Marketing Assistant - Emily Harrison, MA Heritage Studies: Interpretation, Presentation & Design, BA (Hons).
Emily joined Shropshire Tourism in June 2011. Emily has had a diverse career to date, including working as Cabin Crew for easyJet before embarking on a Masters in Heritage Studies, where she achieved a Distinction. She has spent the last three years working for the National Trust, as Assistant Visitor Services Manager at Powis Castle.
In her leisure time Emily enjoys overseas travel, and a little closer to home you’ll often find her walking and climbing.
Emily's main roles at Shropshire Tourism include membership support, providing secretarial support to the Tourism Associations, project managing brochure production and providing administrative support.
Your Website Development Team
Head of IT - Alistair Buckle - MSc Computer Science
Alistair joined the team in December 2011 to lead the IT department and manage the building and maintenance of client websites. An experienced Web Developer, Alistair's background includes two years working at a successful commercially-driven creative agency and two years running busy web portals for the Shropshire Star and Express & Star newspapers. His enthusiasm for the latest technologies, good design, usability, best practices, and expertise in LAMP development translate into effective websites that work.
Alistair heads up the Shropshire Tourism IT team and is responsible for delivering innovation, quality, and client satisfaction.
Senior Web Development Officer - Kay Corbett
Kay joined the Shropshire Tourism team after working within the internet department of a local IT solutions supplier for 8 years. During this time Kay was the company’s website designer working on both client and internal projects. Alongside her role as a website designer Kay also created showroom marketing materials, managed domain renewals/transfers and handled orders for services such as website hosting and ADSL services. Kay's main role at Shropshire Tourism is to design, develop and improve customer and internal websites.
Web Development Officer - Lee Stewart - BA (Hons) Interactive Multimedia
Lee has recently joined the company, starting in November 2011. His previous employment includes a variety of IT based roles involving software programming, server management, web design/development and hardware/software maintenance. During this time he has developed a keen interest in web technology and has chosen this as the base of his career.
In his spare time he enjoys winter trips to the slopes with his snowboard and relaxing on warm beaches during the summer.
His main roles at Shropshire Tourism include developing and maintaining customer websites.
Accounts Assistant - Lucy Cruise
After graduating from The University of Liverpool with a BA Honours degree in Geography, Lucy embarked on a career in the finance sector. She is AAT qualified and a CIMA finalist and previously worked as a Management Accountant at an IT company.
She has been lucky enough to travel far and wide, but due to family commitments travel plans are temporarily on hold and she currently works only ten hours a week covering the Accounts function at Shropshire Tourism.
