TripAdvisor rebuked over 'trust' claims on its website
“Travel review site TripAdvisor has been told it can no longer claim to offer ‘trusted and honest reviews’ after an investigation by advertising watchdogs found the site could not guarantee customer feedback was genuine.” (TravelMole, 1st February 2012)This is an interesting article for all Shropshire Tourism members. Honest reviews or not, our advice to you remains unchanged – if your business is on TripAdvisor (or any other review website) make sure you check it regularly so that you can respond, either by thanking guests for their comments or investigating any negative feedback.We share some top tips for responding to reviews from the Head of Industry Relations at TripAdvisor.

English Tourism Week 10th-18th March
VisitEngland are gearing up for the first ever English Tourism Week (ETW), which will take place from 10th – 18th March. Billed as a chance “to draw attention to England as a holiday destination, look at what sets us apart, and celebrate our assets!” , VisitEngland are planning a number of consumer, trade and media facing activities around ETW and will be looking to highlight some of the great activities and offers from around the country.

Government announcement on reducing regulation of tourism industry
Recommendations from an independent panel for widespread deregulation of the tourism and hospitality industries were published on 24th January. This is to do with changing and reducing regulations for the hospitality industry - a good thing.

VisitEngland journalist request for accommodation
VisitEngland are looking for, “new / quirky independent hotels and B&Bs that would be happy to host journalists on a complimentary basis in return for a review piece in a national publication. These need to be stand-out properties – not chain hotels.”
