Our county town has recently been voted the 8th ‘Happiest Place to Live in the UK’ from more than 200 towns and cities throughout the country. A range of factors were taken into consideration for the vote, including community spirit, access to sports and arts facilities, and opportunities for residents to better themselves.

Britain’s favourite Hidden Gem

Visit England have been working with leading pork pie manufacturer Pork Farms to find the nation’s top three favourite Hidden Gems – we have already nominated some Shropshire places and now we need your help to nominate others! Pork Farms has teamed up with UK Tourist Boards to discover those very special places that, while may be known to some, may be totally unknown to others and they are inviting people to visit the Pork Farms website to inspire their inner explorer. Hidden Gem explorers have until 31st July 2016 to submit their own favourite Hidden Gems before the top five from each region are picked to be part of a very special regional shortlist.

It’s official, British B&Bs are some of the best in the world!

A recent article from the online booking agency Eviio has reported a major study by Tripadvisor into the average “bubble” rankings awarded by guests in hotels and B&B’s around the world; they analysed millions of traveller ratings given to hotel and B&B properties on TripAdvisor over the last ten years in 15 major tourism markets. The results are interesting and they tell us one thing very clearly: independent hotels and B&B’s in the UK are some of the best in the world, and their review scores show it!

The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Committee launches an inquiry into the role of tourism in supporting rural growth in England. Rural Tourism provides around £17 billion a year to the English economy. But rural communities face some particular challenges to tourism growth such as transport connections, restrictions to broadband access and seasonal employment.
