On-line Visitor Survey

Shropshire Tourism has been running an on-line visitor survey on our main destination website www.visitshropshire.co.uk since April. All completed surveys are entered into a prize draw with a prize of a short break for two being offered by Shropshire County Hotels. The responses so far indicate that 98% of visitor to the website will go on and visit Shropshire this year. Over 72% of these will be as staying visitors, 28% will be a day visitors. The survey officially ends at the beginning of October and full results will be presented back to the next AGM.

Have your say in Shropshire Council’s new parking strategy consultation

Shropshire Council provide car parks and on-street parking in towns across Shropshire. The way the parking within the county is run is determined by the parking strategy. The current strategy and charging arrangements were introduced in 2012 and the council believe after 5 years a lot has changed in terms of technology, payment methods, and value for money and feel a new strategy needs to be put in place. They are looking to develop the car parking charges simpler, cleaner, easier to understand and consistent across the county and want your opinion on what you think and how best to go about it to draw up a new parking Strategy with this consultation. Shropshire Tourism has responded already and expressed concerns that increased charges and introducing the earlier evening charges may well have a negative impact on the visitor, retail and evening economy.

Is your Website Secure?

As we mentioned in our Summer 2017 newsletter Google Chrome are looking to release version 62 as of October, which will mean Google Chrome will mark any website with a data-entry form as “not secure”, unless an SSL certificate is present. We are aware of the recent and ongoing hacking and ransomware attacks and data breaches that are making the headlines over the course of the summer. By implementing an SSL certificate, this data will be fully encrypted. We believe securing your website is so important now more than ever!

Credit AND Debit Card Surcharge Ban in UK

Earlier this year the Government announced a new law taking effect as of the 13th January 2018 that means businesses will no longer be allowed to add any surcharges for payments made by card. This means that as of the start of the year, any surcharge that is added to bills for payments that are made by card must be taken off.
