VisitBritain Taking over VisitEngland?

The government has decided to more ‘closely align’ VisitBritain and VisitEngland following this autumn’s spending review. The government’s decision to bring much of VisitEngland’s work within the VisitBritain remit has raised concerns amongst many national tourism bodies and English destinations, including Shropshire Tourism, who are concerned that VisitEngland’s work to drive domestic tourism will become marginalised or even neglected. Letters expressing concern have been sent to the government, including one from ourselves – as Shropshire is very reliant on domestic tourism and the domestic short break and day visitor markets.

VisitEngland Chief Executive James Beresford leaving the organisation

VisitEngland’s Chief Executive James Berresford is leaving VisitEngland after six years as Chief Executive. James has been a long standing supporter of Shropshire Tourism and indeed Shropshire and will be missed by us all who have worked with him from his days at the old Heart of England Tourist Board through to his current post at Visit England.
