Discover Local in the Shropshire Hills – forthcoming events.

A new three year landscape project ‘Discover Local’ has been launched in the Shropshire Hills, funded by LEADER.

Project Officer, Jodie Griffith, explains “The focus is on local and traditional produce, crafts and skills, which help to conserve and enhance the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  The project aims to foster the link between landscape and local products, and through workshops and networking events, encourage people and businesses to better understand and use what the Shropshire Hills has to offer.”

Jodie continued “There will be lots of opportunities for local people, visitors and local businesses to get involved in the workshops and range of events over the life of the project.  Some of the forthcoming events include a Hedgerow Harvest tour and cookery demonstration on 21st September at the Shropshire Hills Discover Centre, and an Orchard Fruit Foraging Day on 27th October at Mahorall Farm, where you can learn all about orchard fruits and have a go at making some apple juice or cider. Full events details will be publicised shortly.”

The project will also support and develop commercial opportunities for the small scale local food, drink and craft businesses, and will be collating Shropshire Hills recipes, stories and photo’s for archive on the Buy Local Website, www.shropshirehills-buylocal.co.uk.  Contributions welcome, please contact Jodie.
