All Change – Again?

The Shropshire and Telford Destination Management Partnership (DMP) has been replaced, Regional Development Agencies (RDA’s) are being abolished, Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP’s) are being formed and VisitEngland and VisitBritain are being reviewed!

DMP’s

The Shropshire and Telford Destination Management Partnership (DMP) has been replaced with the ‘Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin Tourism Strategy Board’. This will consist of:

  • 2 cabinet members with responsibility for economic development from Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin Councils
  • 1 representative from a major attraction
  • 1 representative from a major trust and heritage body
  • 1 of the Chairs of the four new Destination Development Partnerships

Four new Destination Development Partnerships will also be established (it is envisaged that these will be ‘...broader than the local Tourism Associations, which would still have an important role...’) The four areas are:

  • Oswestry & North Shropshire
  • Shrewsbury
  • Shropshire Hills & Ludlow
  • Telford, Ironbridge & Severn Valley

RDA’s & LEP’s

You may be aware that Regional Development Agencies (RDA’s) are being abolished by the current government so Advantage West Midlands (AWM) will disappear. It is unclear at this stage where the responsibility for regional tourism will lie. Part of the abolition of RDA’s is the formation of LEP’s – Local Enterprise Partnerships.

Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Hereford Council’s have put in a bid to form an LEP to cover these areas.

VisitBritain and VisitEngland

Having just formed VisitEngland following an earlier review by the Department of Culture, Media & Sport, the new government is now conducting a new review of VisitBritain and VisitEngland. Results are expected at the end of this month so we will keep you updated.
