Ludlow Food Centre Cheeses Win Silver Medals at British Cheese Awards

Ludlow Food Centre is celebrating after their cheesemakers received four silver awards at this year's British Cheese Awards, which took place at the Royal Bath and West Show on 26th May.

Ludlow Food Centre's dairymen Dudley and Paul, hand make all of their cheeses using traditional methods. The milk that goes into their dairy produce comes from the Food Centre's very own Friesian-Holstein cows and the cheese is all matured on beech racks in their cheese store.  

The four cheeses to win silver medals for Ludlow Food Centre are:

  • Croft Gold - Best Semi-Soft Rind Washed Cheese [up to 500gm] – A semi-soft cheese, rind washed in Hereford Cider Brandy, to achieve a pungent and powerful flavour.
  • Oakly Park - Best Modern British Hard Cow’s Cheese [Over 12 Months] – Cheddar, named after Oakly Park Estate, creamy and full of character.
  • Lady Halton Smoked - Best Flavour Added Smoked Other Cheese – A semi-hard cheese smoked at Ludlow Food Centre, using specially selected wood chippings from the Estate.
  • Shropshire Ewe - Best New Hard Cheese: Goat/Ewe/Buffalo – Developed using milk from Shropshire’s only dairy sheep farm, Pitchford Estate; this cheese has a firm supple texture and nutty, caramel undertone.
