Changes to Web Entries on the Shropshire Tourism Website

The Good News! – Alasdair Sawday, Johansens and others…. As properties no longer need to be graded to appear on the Shropshire Tourism website we can now accept a range of other awards and commendations. So if you have an award from one of the above or indeed any other organisation that you wish to appear on your own web entry on the Shropshire Tourism website just let us know and we will add it for you. The Bad News - Sykes Cottages Although you now longer have to be graded to appear on the Shropshire Tourism website, many members will already be aware that Sykes Cottages no longer inspect properties to a strict set of defined grading criteria when awarding properties a number of ticks. We wrote to Sykes regarding the matter, and after numerous attempts to speak to them to discuss the situation, we have received no feedback whatsoever.

In the past we have always classed the number of ticks a Sykes registered property has, to be equivalent to the number of stars awarded to a property under the inspections schemes that operate to national standards i.e. the AA, VisitEngland, and even our own inspection scheme. These stars are generated by using a percentage score system against a defined list of set criteria and are not simply a subjective review.

On the website accommodation search we currently class Shropshire Tourism members who are awarded ticks by Sykes in the same way as those awarded a star rating under the national schemes.

However, under our own duty of care, we can no longer do this, as no formal defined inspection is taking place. Therefore properties that only have a Sykes listing will now be classed as ‘ungraded’ in the accommodation search, however we will still include the Sykes Cottages logo but without the ticks on those businesses web entries.

Those Sykes registered properties that are already inspected under one of the national schemes or our own scheme will of course continue to be counted as graded.

If you are a Sykes registered property and currently ungraded and wish to still appear under a star rating search on the website, there is the option to be assessed by VisitEngland, the AA, or our own Shropshire Assessment Scheme.

Cottages 4 You (The Wyndham Group) and English Country Cottages do operate a grading inspection scheme using the national Visit England standards and therefore any properties with these organisations will be able to be classed as graded on our accommodation search.

If you have any questions with regards to the decision, please do not hesitate to call Jodie or Simon on 01743 261919.
