Changes in Membership

Changes in Membership

With Shropshire Council apparently further downgrading tourism from its economic development remit and with the recent departure of Tim King (leaving the county with no full time tourism officers for the first time in many decades) the board felt that as Shropshire Tourism is the official DMO for the county, we need to further strengthen our representative role as the voice for the county’s visitor economy. The board have therefore decided to modify the structure of membership of Shropshire Tourism to become more inclusive and better engage with all tourism businesses and organisations involved in the county’s visitor economy. The board have decided to make membership of Shropshire Tourism free and open to all businesses and organisations with an interest in the visitor economy in Shropshire and the surrounding area, and introduce an optional charge for advertising on the website.

For current members there is no real change; your web entry remains on the site for the fee you have already paid, so your next renewal will just state ‘web entry renewal’ rather than ‘membership renewal’.

Future newsletters will be sent out on a quarterly basis to the wider industry, and the AGM will have more of a forum role, and other meetings will also be open to a wider audience. Going forward, all members will still be able to access all the member benefits that are currently offered and also access the full range of support services offered by Shropshire Tourism; as well as take part in any promotional and marketing activities we deliver on behalf of the destination.

The joint support we currently provide North Shropshire Tourism and Bridgnorth and District Tourism Association will continue as before. Both have already introduced a separate web charge which we currently collect on their behalf and pass over to them.

If anyone has any questions about these changes and how they may impact on your business please free to call Jodie or Simon on 01743 261919.
