Case Study: The Edge Adventure Activities Ltd

How Shropshire Tourism has helped one business in Much Wenlock

The Edge Adventure Activities Ltd was established in 2002 in Much Wenlock. It is a family run business led by owner Chris Hill, which has grown into a leading activity centre, offering a wide range of adventure activities including mountain boarding, quad trekking, clay pigeon shooting and off road karting.

Chris approached Shropshire Tourism in July 2008 with a brief for The Edge and its two sister companies; Stokes Barn (which offers on-site accommodation) and Sytche Caravan and Camping. Chris wanted to raise awareness and the corporate profile of the company with the development of new promotional literature, new websites and a new brand identity.

Shropshire Tourism visited Chris to talk about the brief and his objectives and drew up a marketing plan. This included:
Developing 3 new complimentary logos and brand guidelines,

Designing and building new websites for each area of the business www.theedgeadventure.co.uk. www.stokesbarn.co.uk and www.sytchecaravanandcamping.co.uk

Organisation of  a promotional familiarisation day for key clients

A new corporate pack with inserts for direct mail (including adventure activities, corporate days, activity groups, private parties and example packages)

Compliment slips, letterheads and business cards

Promotional literature for The Edge and Sytche Caravan and Camping including 2 new leaflets and a summer special offer flier

A targeted distribution campaign

Bespoke press and PR

Exhibition display material

A few months later, 3 new websites have been created, new branding has been established with new logos, leaflets, corporate folders and inserts and exhibition material, and Shropshire Tourism is continuing to support Chris with his ongoing marketing development.

In addition to the above Shropshire Tourism has undertaken research for online advertising, offered input and advice into copywriting and image selection, and organised a corporate day; identifying potential new customers and mailing out to them with a bespoke communication.

Commenting on Shropshire Tourism, Chris said 'Our collection of accommodation and activity companies has always been difficult and time consuming to market. Letting the Shropshire Tourism team take control has turned everything around for us, suddenly we have literature and 3 websites that do our products justice and a new distribution campaign that helps new custom find us easily.

I must give credit to Shropshire Tourism for helping to encourage a substantial growth in our market presence as well as our customers.'
