The total value of tourism in Shropshire in 2005 was £561 million.

Shropshire generates approximately 9% of total West Midlands regional tourism spend.

38% of spend is generated by overnight visitors, the remaining 62% by day trippers.

10.6 million people visited Shropshire in 2005.

12% of these (1.3 million) are overnight visitors, while 88% (9.3 million) are day visitors.

44% of day trippers visited the towns (4.08 million people), while 56% (5.26 million) visited the countryside.

The main beneficiaries of the tourism trade are accommodation providers (£65.3 million), retail establishments (£150.3 million), catering (£189 million), entertainment (£65.3 million) and transport (£49.3 million)
